Good morning…

“Surely the Chinese curse is upon us: ‘May you live in interesting times!'” writes Margaret Silf, author of The Other Side of Chaos, one of the books we are studying in my living room this semester. “And the ideogram for crisis also comes to mind, with its combination of the symbols representing ‘danger’ and ‘opportunity’ – a combination we might see reflected all around us in our world today, to say nothing of our own personal situations.” (p. 12)

Danger forces the question, “What do I fear most?”

Opportunity wonders, “What new possibility is God inviting?”

When we try fiercely to protect ourselves, we may limit our danger while killing a rebirth opportunity. Interesting times will always curse and bless the lives of ordinary people. With danger and opportunity constantly alive on one two-sided coin, we must personally ponder, “Do I believe my two-sided coin is safe in the hands of God Almighty?”

You are my hiding place!
You protect me from trouble,
and you put songs in my heart
because you have saved me.
You said to me,
“I will point out the road
that you should follow.
I will be your teacher
and watch over you” (Psalm 32:7-8, CEV).
