candle-gratitude

Good morning…

After yesterday’s sermon, our 17-year-old son said, “I really liked the preacher’s story about the boy in his youth group who said, ‘If you ever feel like snuffing out your light, don’t. The world is dark enough.'” I agreed. That was my favorite takeaway too. Then in the afternoon, I opened an email from a friend, an email with this subject line: A beautiful song.

“Dear Sue,” she began. “After reading your recent post about what you found at the farm, I had to share this: I am so amazed at the Enneagram study and its accuracy as to who I am. It helps me to understand myself better and is a true gift to me. Thank you. Now here is a gift for you. A friend shared this beautiful song with my other book club. I know so many people you minister to could find peace in it as they struggle with so many issues, personally, physically, socially, and politically. I know it brings me peace. Finding sanctuary in our waiting, this truly is the heart of the matter.”

I curled up on our couch and touched on the song link. A rich, soulful voice fanned my inner flame. “Will you be my refuge, my haven in the storm, will you keep the embers warm when my fire’s all but gone?”

“If you ever feel like snuffing out your light, don’t.” The morning’s message and the afternoon’s song sang in healing harmony. “Will you keep the embers warm when my fire’s all but gone?”

Creating our own shared harmony, we find a sanctuary, a refuge, a haven in the storm, as we patiently wait with God through the dark nights of our soul. This truly is the heart of our matter.

Now, give yourself the gift of rekindling your own peace with this beautiful song, Sanctuary by Carrie Newcomer.

Lord, You have been our dwelling place [our refuge, our sanctuary, our stability] in all generations (Psalm 90:1, AMP).

…Sue…
