candle-gratitude

Good morning…

As I turned on the news I quickly opened my journal. From an interview with the rabbi whose California synagogue was attacked by a gunman, deep hurt and deeper hope splattered quotes on my page.

There is a war out there between darkness and light.

America is a nation who believes in God.

Celebrating our religious freedom, together we stand up.

It’s all about action, confident acts of kindness.

Our job every day is to do random acts of kindness, to create positivity.

Love is the only way we will win this war.

Goodness and kindness will win.

Let’s shout out and sing with strength, power, and courage.

I sat on my bed amazed at our God living so boldly through this bearded, tender man. He spoke God’s love fluently from a state of numbed shock, recounting the ugly details that ripped off his finger, terrorized his faith community, and killed a vibrant sixty-year-old woman who he best describes as an angel. At a time of great grief, even greater power rose up to heal as this humble leader peacefully embodied for the world’s watching eyes the sturdy truth of Psalm 40:3 (ICB). He put a new song in my mouth. It was a song of praise to our God. Many people will see this and worship him. Then they will trust the Lord.
