Earlier this week our post, Welcome To Our Messy Home, stepped on a common nerve. One of you wrote: “I’m so glad that you took a picture of your Messy House. My mom has told me for years how much that I will miss a messy house, loads of laundry, shoes left all over the place, crumbs on the counter and floors, etc. I tear up thinking how non-messy my house will soon be. A messy house is a sign of life within it. Enjoy the life within your home this summer. I’m going to do the same!!”
My friend and her mom are so very right. The mayhem of May is seasonal insanity. Craziness can pile up for the final season of the school year, but it remains contained in the child-raising season of life. Some people never have children, by choice or by chance. Most children grow up and leave home eventually. We are all aging into a quieter life season, when our home will be neater, our laundry will be less, and scattered shoes, annoying crumbs, and grown kids will be gone. Child-induced insanity is only for a fleeting season.
I too tear up thinking of how non-messy our home will soon be, as we have just one more year with our last high school senior in our midst. I appreciate the reminder: “A messy house is a sign of life within it.” Along with my wise friend and her mom, I vow to enjoy the life within our home this summer. Will you join us too, enjoying the life within your own home?
