Good morning…
I used to think I needed older, wiser mentors watering my seeds of faith, people pouring into me, helping me to grow. At the same time, I thought I was designed to be an older, wiser mentor, pouring into the lives of others, helping them to grow. Me being poured into so I could pour out. That’s how I pictured a growing faith.
Recently God has been teaching me a more abundant way. The watering source is not people, us being pouring into so we can pour out. Our watering Source is one person, Immanuel, the living Christ. Jesus explains, “He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water’” (John 7:38, AMP). When it comes to a fruitful life of faith, we are fed by the living water God has secreted in our soul.
Over time, in God’s time, our hidden spring overflows. Gathering together, we are watered as we water, effortlessly, spontaneously, all at the same time. So who is watering who? The fruits of God’s Spirit naturally grow among us. More love. More joy. More peace expand. This shows that the one who plants or the one who waters is not the important one. God is the important One. He makes (us) grow. The one who plants and the one who waters are alike. Each one will receive his own reward (1 Corinthians 3:7-8, NLV). Thanks be to God for our mutually beneficial reward!
