Good morning…

With the humid heat and our furry dog, I began a short walk to take care of her business. When I saw a gorgeous plume of colorful clouds blessing the morning sky, I turned around and went back to our home to get my phone. With leash in hand, I awkwardly took photos of the gentle beauty surprising my eyes.

After our brief walk, I revisited a text string from earlier in the day. A tender-hearted friend had sent me the poem below, and I responded with these words: “I love this, really really love this. The word which has filled my mind all morning is gentle. ‘Let your gentleness be evident to all,’ says the Bible. I find the word in this poem also. ‘…finding ourselves…slowly and gently…to answers God has for us…'”

Somehow the clouds seemed to embrace this new way of struggling. Float. Fall. Tumble. Be led. Slowly and gently. But surely. We humans struggle to surrender our fear-based urge to grab with both hands, to shake, to twist, to turn, to push, to shove, to never, ever give in. As we struggle with a hard issue or a challenging question, there is a different way. Might we simply jump off into the unknown abyss and watch God’s answers unfold before our eyes? Friends, we are invited to be part of God’s gentle unfolding.

“But oh! the trust necessary for this new way!”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6, NLT).

…Sue…

P.S. After my second sleep, I woke to a new text from my tender-hearted friend. “Your blog this morning was beautiful…the clouds, the way you wove it all together.” She vulnerably shared, “I was led to this passage which requires so much trust and letting go.”

psalm

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits…To trust that He is my source of unfailing love and redemption…not all my old hand-holds.” She honestly admitted, “I’ve got miles to go sweet friend but very very thankful that you are on the journey with me.”

We all have miles to go and I am also very very thankful that we are on this journey with God together.
