prayer

Good morning…

The last time I was in Ohio visiting my parents in their senior living community, I took a prayer walk on behalf of Audrey DeShetler. That was a special part of my nine day visit in June. Last night at dusk, I took a prayer walk in honor of my dad.

Yesterday, I flew in from Atlanta to support my parents, as my dad has a PET scan this morning. The procedure will determine if his active cancer spots are contained in his prostate or if they have spread to other parts of his body. We are hoping that the cancer is contained, making it easier to treat. Prayers for my dad’s healing were on my heart, as I walked the sacred grounds my parents call home.

In God’s perfect timing, Audrey’s mom Jennifer texted me as I walked, “Sue, I will be praying for your dad.”

“I am grateful for your prayers,” I replied. “Audrey was such a prayer warrior for my mom as she went through her many medical challenges over the past several years. Now her heavenly eyes can focus on my father. I am taking the same prayer walk I took the night of Audrey’s last surgery.”

“I love you, Sue,” Jennifer responded.

“I love you too,” I wrote. “We have lifted so many prayers and shared so many tears over the years. Our friendship has walked this road with God, with faith and integrity, step by step.”

“Sue, I know Audrey had prayed for your mom, her birthday twin, many times,” she replied, remembering that both special women were born on June 9th. “I know she can now directly ask Jesus to heal your dad.” I sent a heart emoji.

A few hours later, as I made my bed on my parents’ couch, I overheard my parents’ voices from their bedroom.

“Thank you for everything you do for me, Tom,” my mom sweetly said.

“I do it because I love you,” my dad replied.

“Well, I am really glad you love me. I love you too.” In their simple exchange, I heard the healing power of Jesus already at work.

Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body (Proverbs 16:24, ESV).

…Sue…

P.S. Thank you for lifting gracious words of prayer for my dad, my mom, and our family, as we head into this important day of scans.
