Good morning…

One of my dog loving friends sent me the clever image above. With yard signs galore, political ads bombarding us, and incessant texts flooding our phones, I also sense the confusion blanketing this time of uncertainty.

Last week, Kate Bowler (author, podcaster, and colon cancer survivor) sent an encouraging message into our world’s thick overgrowth. It’s worth sharing Kate’s wisdom with you as this midterm election cycle finally comes to a close.

A Blessing for Uncertain Times by Kate Bowler

Bless you who do not know what happens next,
who worry about the world we are walking toward.
May uncertainty remind you that you still have choices to make.

Bless you with courage
for the small, faithful thing that is yours to do: to vote,
pay attention, tell the truth,
care for your neighbors,
and keep showing up.

Bless you who cannot carry the whole future.
May you carry what is yours:
a responsibility, a neighbor,
a small corner of this beautiful, terrible world.

Bless you when you cannot see far ahead.
May you do the next faithful thing,
and then the next,
until our small acts make a path
where none was visible before.

Vote. Pay attention. Tell the truth. Care for your neighbors. Keep showing up. Carry what is yours. Do the next faithful thing. And then the next faithful thing.

As long as I’m alive in this body, there is good work for me to do (Philippians 1:22a, MSG).

Amid life’s confusing uncertainty, we still have choices to make. Guided by God’s inner voice, our small daily acts blaze a fresh pathway forward.
