Good morning…

Life dishes out tons of trouble and some of us are served a high, heaping helping. Troubles come in many forms: short-lived or long-lasting, self-inflicted or unexpected, collectively experienced or randomly singled out. For some of us, troubles are fueled by our inner critic: “I can’t believe you said that. Did that. Messed up. Again.” For others, troubles attack us like an outside enemy: crime or cancer, conflict or calamity. We are blindsided. Devastated. Left helpless and hurt.

Though I am surrounded by troubles (we all have our list),
you will protect me from the anger of my (inner and outer) enemies.

Peaceful protection is what God offers. Tucked in God’s care, troubles cannot destroy the core of our being.

You reach out your (soft, secure, sensitive) hand,
and the power of your right hand saves me.

To be “saved” means to be “made whole.” God’s powerful right hand wipes away troubles, restoring our wholeness.

The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever (Psalm 138:7-8a, NLT).

As we end one year to begin another, our trust looks up and God’s love rains down: “The Lord will work our his plans for my life.”
