Good morning…

Yesterday I sat at two very different tables.

Invited to sit at my dear friend’s table, in the morning I attended the uplifting, inspiring Action Ministries breakfast at the Cobb Energy Center. “What starts as a meal, becomes a conversation,” I copied in my journal the words of a spirited speaker. “Out of that conversation grows hope. Together, let’s end hunger, period, for 10,000 children.”

Invited to sit at another dear friend’s table, in the evening I attended the Benefits of Laughter dinner, a gorgeous gathering at the St. Regis hotel. Together we celebrated the 30th anniversary of Skyland Trail, an organization on the leading-edge of mental health treatment established to help clients and their families reconnect with hope and begin building healthy futures.

Did you catch the contagious word served up at both the breakfast table and the dinner table? Hope. Hope for thousands of children who go to school hungry in our city and hope for hundreds of teens and adults ravaged by debilitating mental health issues in our city. Dictionary.com tells us that hope is “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.” Faith. Belief. Promise. Confidence. Optimism. These synonyms for hope were served up in big, heaping helpings by generous people living out the compassionate call of God.

Yesterday, I was privileged to see the reciprocal joy of Proverbs 11:25 come alive at two very different tables: The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped. Thanks be to our God who partners with passionate people.
