Good morning…
“What would Julie do?” This is a question many of us have been asking regularly since April 2nd, when our 41 year old friend left earth for heaven. When wondering if a mother/son event should be canceled, we trust Julie would want the celebration to go on. When faced with how to best to share Christ’s love with our kids, our minds stretch to envision how Julie might respond as a mom. When considering what type of spouse to be, many of us look at the precious bond she and Chad share and seek to live toward a similar union. In relationship with long time friends and not-yet-friends, we consider welcoming and encouraging all, just as Julie would. When faced with a “short cut” or the “right way” at work or at home, in the church or the community, we are strengthened to make the wiser, life-giving choice, because we have seen Julie live her everyday life well, filled with the grace and the love of God.
I remember years ago when it was “the thing” to wear a plastic wrist band bearing these four letters: W.W.J.D.? The bracelet served as a tangible reminder to ask ourselves regularly “What would Jesus do?” I love that the names of Jesus and Julie share the same first letter. Now our hearts see in double vision. Jesus’ example first. Julie’s example also.
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God (Ephesians 5:1-2, NLT).
God grows our Christlike qualities when we live out the best answer to this moment-by-moment question, “What would Jesus and Julie do?”
